Michael Quante is a professor of philosophy at the University of Münster. He is president of the German Society of Philosophy and member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.
He gained international recognition with his research findings in the fields of German idealism, the philosophy of mind, action theory and ethics. Professor Quante is a pioneer of bioethics, a dynamically developing new discipline at the interface of philosophy and the life sciences. He is author of more than 300 publications, which appeared in prominent international journals and collections of papers. His monographs entitled Hegel’s Concept of Action (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2004) and Person (Berlin/New York: de Gruyter, 2007) are of special importance.
Besides his seminal scholarly achievements, awarding Professor Quante the title of doctor honoris causa has also been justified by his close cooperation with the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Debrecen for several decades as well as his efforts to further the international contacts of our university. Among others things, in connection with our research university project, he initiated the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Debrecen and the University of Münster which, apart from joint research programmes and the exchange of students and researchers, facilitates the mutual evaluation of research activities as well.
He was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa of the University of Debrecen in 2012.
