Dr. Thomas Köves-Zulauf

Twenty years ago, Prof. Dr. Thomas Köves-Zulauf (1923–2022), former professor of Philipps-Universität Marburg (Germany), was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa by the University of Debrecen.

He was the student of the renowned ancient historian, Prof. Dr. András Alföldi. Köves-Zulauf made lasting contributions to the field of classical philology, particularly to the study of religion in ancient Rome, and he also played an important role in clarifying the historiographical significance of Pliny the Elder.

From the 1990s onward, he was actively involved in the classical philology program of the University of Debrecen, regularly returning as a guest lecturer and serving as a scientific editor of Acta Classica Universitatis Debreceniensis.

In 2006, he was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa by the University of Debrecen.
